After much searching for a church for us to attend since moving to the Memphis area, we think we have found where we want to get plugged in. We literally went to 7 or 8 different churches before going to Faith Baptist, where we've gone the last 3 Sundays. We still haven't fully committed and might possibly be open to trying others, but for now, we've returned there week after week.
A few Sundays ago they had a guest speak to the church. Faith had had a Men's Ministry Conference and the guest, Dr. Charles Lowery, was one of the key speakers during the conference. He spoke to the men during the conference and then to the whole congregation that Sunday morning.
From what I could find (or should I say couldn't find…) Faith does not make their sermons available online each week. So I resorted to the ever faithful YouTube, and found where he had spoken at a different church. I listened to the whole thing, all 4 parts, and much of what he talked about at the church service we attended, he talks about in these YouTube videos.
I thought I would post these videos, hoping that if your schedule allows, you will make time to listen to them. I wouldn't consider this a "sermon"… in reality, he calls himself a psychologist, so maybe "an inspirational message"… BUT what he speaks about is Biblically based and has some great points of truth! Not to mention… HE IS HILARIOUS! Seriously. So funny. Troy and I were laughing so much that Sunday morning. You will enjoy… I promise!!
One of my favorite points he made was this (talking about how to show people that you love and care about them…), "God left His world (heaven) to be in your world (Earth) to show you he loves you (through death on a cross in payment of your sins). In the same way, you must leave your world to be in another's world to show them you love them!"
This is so true!! What a genuine way to show someone that you love and care about them… to leave your world, your cares, your concerns, your "mountains" your worries, your priorities, your needs, your comfort, etc. and to think of another's world, their cares, their concerns, their "mountains", their worries, their priorities, their needs, their comfort.
This is so my sweet momma… I don't think she even has a "world" of her own… she spends a lot of her time in her family and her friends's "worlds"-- serving and helping them :)
This is also so real to me at this current stage of my life, as I've been privileged enough to help out with two little girls adopted from China. To think their adopted family left "their world" to be part of an "orphans world"… and EVERYTHING that comes along with that… from paper work, to crazy travel, to teaching English, to dealing with any habits or hangups they have from being neglected as a baby, to providing medical health… is there a better example of putting another's needs before yours to show true love?!
"… Rather, in humility value others above yourselves. not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others."
