Monte Cristo

I was reading Mix and Match Mama's foodie blog and saw something that I thought we should try.

Although I've never ordered it, Troy loves getting the monte cristo sandwich at Cheddar's. Shay did her own version of a monte cristo… on a waffle!

We had it for dinner last night (around 9 pm…don't judge)

I thought I'd share...

waffles (she used frozen… I made waffles with the waffle maker since we already had mix)

deli ham (we just got the Premium Selection Kroger brand)

swiss cheese (I added a slice of cheddar, too)

sprinkle of powdered sugar

raspberry jam for dipping (she also suggests strawberry jam or syrup)

First I made the waffle in the waffle maker.

Once the waffle was done, I added the ham and cheese to one side, flipped the other side on top (to make a sandwich), then closed the waffle iron on top of the sandwiched waffle to warm the ham and melt the cheese.

Once that was warmed and melted, I took it out of the waffle iron, placed it on a plate, and sprinkled it with powdered sugar.

T really liked it… to me it was okay. I've never had one to compare it with! Monte cristos just might not be my thing ;)
