Oh but what the cross has done!

I got this necklace when the sideways-cross necklaces became 'all the rage'.
I still love wearing it and feel like cross necklaces are pretty classic and never go out of style.
I think cross necklaces are so popular we actually forget what a cross is… historically.

Think about it… the cross represented a criminal's death.
In today's world, it'd be like having an electric chair hanging from your neck.
Or a gas chamber key chain on your key ring.
Or lethal injection equipment for little charms on a ring.
Or a hanging noose sticker on your car.

So why is it not eerie, unnerving, or disturbing to see a cross hanging around someone's neck?

Its because of the One who overcame it.
The One who conquered death.

And because of this, the cross represents much more than a death sentence.
Quite the opposite actually.
It represents the opportunity to have eternal life.
It represents the freedom of not having to work or do certain things to be good enough to get to heaven.
It represents our Savior's love for us.
It represents no guilt in life and no fear in death.
It represents that the grave is empty and He is on his throne.

And I don't know about you… but I am so very grateful for that!

Let us be reminded of Christ's painful, criminal-like death that he paid for us, so that we may be spend eternity with him in heaven.

"God put the wrong on him (Jesus) who never did anything wrong, so we could be right with God."
2 Corinthians 5:21 -The Message

"Jesus paid it all.
All to him I owe.
Sin had left a crimson stain.
He washed it white as snow."

"Life's a fight of wrong and right
that's tearing me apart.
Oh but what the cross has done!"
