married life

I feel like we've been non-stop since we got back to the U.S., but I wouldn't have it any other way. It's pretty fun to live with your best friend!

So what's been going on with us?

You know you're a newlywed when you go to Bed, Bath, and Beyond, Walmart, and/or Target at least once a day. At least we're just about done getting everything we need for daily function and a happy home. All we have left on our "to get" list is toothpicks, plastic forks for T to take to work when he eats lunch/dinner there, mace for me--safety first!, miracle grow for the tomato plant we planted, and either a fly swatter or some type of fly killer for these really annoying flies we still have from having the doors open for so long on move-in day. And that's NOTHING compared to what our list was earlier this week!

Shelby Farms is less than a mile from our home. We've gone twice since living here and have run on one of the paved trails. We've really enjoyed the scenery of the trail and getting good cardio since we haven't had any in forever. The latest: Troy is trying to teach me how to run. Granted, I know how to run, I've ran a half marathon for goodness sake, but he's trying to teach me how to run "correctly" and "athletically". He says the correct form is to run on your toes/balls of your feet, which I definitely do not do. I'm more of a flat footed, heel toe type of gal (which I know isn't the correct form). It's the way he runs, and he looks good doing it, but when I do it-- quite the opposite. I've explained to Troy I look like the Tennessee walking horse that prances around at UT Homecoming games. Not cute. Oh well, we push each other when running together, so that's a plus!

I officially have written every single thank you note from our wedding. Thank goodness… now just need to get more stamps and send those puppies off!

We had our first visitor! My friend, Robin, came and hung out for a bit while Troy was at work one evening. Love you, Rob… thanks for comin' ova!

This morning we tried out a church that had been recommended to us. We enjoyed the music, but we thought the preacher was just okay. I'm sure we'll be trying out other churches until we find the best one for us!

Never have I ever kept up with receipts when purchasing things. Until now. We keep up and file every single receipt and record it in Excel. We paid our first bill the other day. This is real life.

Here is picture of my cute husband in his scrubs before heading to work. Ain't he cute?! So thankful for his job and his hard work, especially while I'm in search for one! Because of his crazy work schedule, we've been eating dinner at crazy times. I think we're averaging having dinner at 9 PM. You do whatcha gotta do...

Earlier this week I kept Miss Elisabeth. My dad works with her dad so that's how I had the connection. Elisabeth is a hoot. Her mom told me that the night before I was coming to play with her, she made the mistake of telling her I was coming over in the AM. She said within 5 minutes everyone in Oliver Garden knew that "the bride" was coming to her house. The mom said she woke up the morning I was keeping her at 6 AM and put one of her dress up gowns on because she thought I would still be in my wedding dress. She had to explain numerous times that I'd be out of my gown and in normal clothes. I so wish I had my veil here… I would totally wear it over! She is the cutest little 4 year old you ever did see! And says the funniest things! I'm looking forward to playing with her again this week!

I've really enjoyed making our dinner menus and cooking them, especially with all our new gadgets. What I did this week was set the menu for each night this week, then I went to the store and got everything to make those meals. I think this method is going to work best for us as of now.

Not only did I get things to make the dinner dishes, I got things to make a dessert this week. Today I made it… triple chocolate bundt cake. Troy and I have large sweet tooths… this could become dangerous!

Here are the directions for making this yummy cake! (recipe from: howdoesshe.com)

Ingredients for cake:
Devil Food Chocolate Cake Mix
Chocolate Instant Pudding
eggs--# the cake box calls for
1 cup sour cream
water--amount cake box calls for
oil--amount cake box calls for
1/2 bag chocolate chips

Ingredients for chocolate drizzle:
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 cup powdered sugar
¼ teaspoon vanilla
1-2 tablespoons milk
2 tablespoons melted butter

First, combine all cake ingredients and mix together (except chocolate chips).

After the cake mix is mixed well, stir in half a bag of chocolate chips. I used milk chocolate rather than semisweet. Pour the mixture in a well greased bundt pan. Bake at 350 for 40-50 minutes or until done.

Once cake is done, take out and let it cool completely before taking it out of the bundt pan. Once its cooled, place the cake on the platter/cake stand.

For the drizzle, mix together all the ingredients listed above. Stir until it is smooth and at the right consistency. If it is too thick, add a little warm water and continue to stir.

Once the drizzle is ready, drizzle it over the cake!

Sprinkle it with powdered sugar for a pretty and yummy finish!

We're eating our cake tonight with vanilla ice-cream! Yumm! Sweet eats, wishes, and dreams!
