What an interesting experience the wedding invitations have been. At one point, I thought we were just going to have a phone tree to invite all the guests to the wedding due to many bumps and obstacles with getting these things to the mailboxes. But, now, they are officially at the post office and out of my house. Praise Jesus! Coming to a mailbox near youuu…
Problem 1: Finding a calligrapher. Wild goose chase of a hunt. At one point, we were referred to use a girl named Kate in Birmingham. Thankfully, with other connections, we found Rose here in Nashville.
Problem 2: Rose went MIA for a bit due to her moving into another house and all the craziness that happens during the process (Brittany, I'm sure you're saying "amen" right about now).
Problem 3: Hold on, Rose! We're unsure where the reception is going to be!!!
Problem 4: Rose, everything looks great so far (she sent us the first half without the ceremony and reception location) EXCEPT you misspelled Reece! (She spelled it Reese)
Problem 5: Where Rose replaced Reece it wasn't the right size with the rest of the letters, so she redid it all.
Problem 6: All sizing looks great, except Centre is spelled wrong! (According to the building its Centre, not Center)
Alright… finally, all wording is right, correct spelling, and correct locations of both ceremony and reception. Let's send it off to the press!
Problem 7: Carrier and interior envelopes took longer to order, receive, and get to the printing press. Due to this, we had to resort to having them print on the carrier envelopes and the interior envelopes because we didn't have time for the calligrapher to do it! Printing it at the press took like 24 hours…having the calligrapher hand write each one would have taken weeks! Turnaround time was much better with the printing press… time was flying by! (You're suppose to send invitations 6-8 weeks out!)
Problem 8: We finally got ALL the pieces-- got the carrier and interior envelopes--they looked good, but the actual invitations were a no go… THEY WEREN'T CENTERED! So we had them realign everything and reprint them at our expense because we approved the proof. Whew.
Problem 9: Stuffing the envelopes went pretty smooth… a minor mishap with the first 1/4 of the invites, but nothing to get worked up over! I pray I never have to lick another envelope for another month. (Note to all future brides: get the "peel and seal" envelopes when you get married. I didn't realize these existed when we ordered ours, and it was too late by the time I realized our mistake. Licking is tiresome and leaves a terrible taste in your mouth!)
Problem 10: This is the worst of them all. There was miscommunication in what size/price stamp we needed for the invites. Based on size, we could use the standard 45 cent stamp. Based on the weight, we needed the 65 cent stamp. Well, because of the miscommunication, I had already stamped all but 18 invitations with the 45 cent stamp. Yes, all but 18 were stamped with the WRONG stamp. Thank you, US Postal Service. Just 1.01 oz changed the total look of our invitation--if you're one of the lucky 18… you'll receive an invitation with the pretty 65 cent wedding cake stamp. If you're the majority… you'll receive an invitation with the pretty 45 cent white rose wedding stamp… AND THE 20 CENT GEORGE WASHINGTON STAMP!! GEORGE WASHINGTON ON A WEDDING INVITATION… oh brother! Oh well, if that's the greatest mishap we have during this whole wedding process, I think were doing pretty good! I did tell Mom though, George Washington was one of the founding fathers of the US and had much influence on the foundation of this nation… the best, strongest nation in the world! So maybe starting our marriage with the foundation of George Washington (stamps) will lead us to the best, strongest marriage in the world! Haha… optimistic, yes?!
I got 99 problems but an INVITATION ain't one… anymore, because they're officially on their way!
So without further adieu, here is an image of what all will soon (in the next few days) be receiving!
Even with all the problems we had… I think they turned out just great! Sometimes I can't believe they are OUR wedding invitations. Invitations to OUR wedding. Craziness. Saturday marks 6 weeks!
